Reflections Art Competition (due by October 13, 2017)

 

What is Reflections?

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Each year, students in preschool through high school are invited to create and submit works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and the visual arts.

Every year there is a new theme for the competition, which is chosen from student suggested ideas. The theme for the 2017-2018 school year is: “Within Reach”

Entries from JTMS will be judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity. The top entries will go on to be judged in the Regional PTA Reflections Program which encompasses all schools in the Irvine Unified School District.

Who can participate?

All Stonegate students can participate. The will be three age divisions that students will compete in at Jeffrey Trail Middle School are:

 Middle School: Grades 7 – 8

Adults are welcome to encourage students to participate in the program, but are asked not to assist in any way with their interpretation of the theme or artistic expression.

Why should I participate?

Every student is recognized for their accomplishments with the opportunity for state and national awards and recognition.

How do I participate?

Step 1: Reflect on the theme. 2017-2018 Theme is: “Within Reach” 
Step 2: Decide which category or categories you would like to enter and click on the links below to read the detailed rules for the category. Students are limited to one art work per category.

• Literature
• Music Composition
• Photography
• Visual Arts

Step 3: Create your art work and have it ready submit by early October (exact date TBA). Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student only. Other individuals may appear in or perform a student’s work, but the work itself must be the creative product of one student only.

Step 4: Prepare your artwork for submission. One Consent form and one Entry Form are required.

Step 5: Bring your art work to school and turn it by Friday, October 13, 2017

Step 6: Wait for the results. Art works are judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity. Entries that have been selected to move on the Regional Reflection Program (Irvine Unified School District) will be announced late October. Winners per category will be posted on this web page.

When and where do I submit my art work?

Submit your artwork by Friday, October 13, 2017 at the JTMS office.
